Bhubaneswar, Sept 5 (LocalWire): Senior leaders of the Odisha Congress today urged the state government to waive off the loans of farmers who are hit by the floods in the state.
Speaking at a press conference, senior party leader Jayadev Jena said, “Many agricultural lands have been under water and many standing crops of farmers have been destroyed. The government should waive off the loans of farmers from flood hit areas,” he said.
He also tried to corner the ruling BJD government in the state and accused the state government of indulging in low quality construction of flood control structures.
The party sought an independent enquiry into the irregularities and low quality constructions works in the state by a sitting judge of the Orissa High Court.
Another party leader Taraprasad Bahinipati told reporters that he would rake up the issue in the coming Assembly Session.
He also said that as per the instructions from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) different party leaders have started touring flood affected areas.
