Puri, August 25 (LocalWire) A hardened criminal wanted in over a dozen of crimes was injured during wee hours today in a shootout with police on the outskirts of pilgrim town of Puri.
Dibana Behera shot at the police squad near Ashram Chowk as the cops acting on a tip-off tried to intercept him.
The policemen later opened fire at him in self-defence.
Behera was later overpowered as one of the bullets fired by police hit his right leg, said Puri Superintendent of Police, Umashankar Dash.
A nine mm pistol, live ammunition was seized from his possession; he said adding the accused has been shifted to SCB medical college & hospital.
Behera was wanted in around 14 criminal cases including attempt to murder, extortion, robbery, illegal arms possession, he added.
