Sambalpur, Jan 4 (LocalWire) Demanding setting up of a permanent high court bench in western Odisha, demonstrating lawyers embarked on a three-day economic blockade on Monday.
According to sources, the agitators are stopping all vehicles to ferry raw materials like coal, cement, rod and sand to various industrial sites across four districts – Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda and Deogarh.
“This economic blockade will affect mines and minerals, finished goods production, coal production and export. Illegal supply of water from Hirakud Dam to all industrial units in the four districts will also be stopped,” said Western Odisha Central Action Committee (CAC) spokesperson Sureswar Mishra.
“We are forced to stage this economic blockade as our demand is being given a deaf ear,” said Sambalpur Bar Association President, Bijitendriya Pradhan.
Lawyers have been demanding a separate high court bench in the western part of Odisha since the last four months.
