Bhubaneswar, November 21 (LocalWire): The Schools and Mass Education Department has detected 132 fake teachers performing duties in government-run schools across the state.
Among those who furnished fake educational certificates to get the job, 20 had been hired as permanent teaching staff, while the remaining 112 were engaged by the schools on a contractual basis, Schools and Mass Education minister Samir Ranjan Dash told the Assembly on Wednesday.
The fake teachers have been dismissed from their jobs and criminal proceedings have been initiated against them, the minister stated.
The drive to detect fake teachers is still underway and a special cell has been constituted to crosscheck the certificates of contractual and regular teachers appointed since the past eight years.
“More cases of fake teachers on the job may come to light since the inquiry is still on,” said a senior official of the Schools and Mass Education Department.
The ‘suspect’ certificates furnished by serving teachers have been sent to their respective institutions for verification.
“If the said institutions do not endorse the genuineness of the certificates, the fake certificate holders would be sacked from the jobs. The department would register criminal cases of fraud against them,” the officer stated.
