Baripada, December 14 (LocalWire): A herd of 22 wild elephants continue to unleash terror in Mayurbhanj district with the animals damaging at least five houses and trampled down about seven acres of croplands in forest-side village.
The wild animals have strayed into several villages in Jashipur-Charuan forest ranges under Karanjia forest division leaving the people panicked.
It’s sleepless nights for the villagers and forest personnel as jumbos sneak into crop fields after the sunset causing irreparable damage to standing crops and vegetable plants.
Forest personnel have rushed to the elephant depredation-hit village and have stepped up vigil to chase away the animals to their original habitation corridors.
The farmers who have suffered crop damage would be duly compensated by the forest department, said the officials.
