Berhampur, October 12 (LocalWire): A 40-year old farm labourer was arrested by the police after his wife committed suicide along with her two daughters by jumping before a running train near the Golanthara railway station near here.
While the woman Rama Bhanja (35) died on the spot, her two daughters Priya (11) and Riya (8) sustained injuries.
While Priya is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, her younger sister Riya was admitted at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
The condition of the siblings is stated to be serious.
According to the police, her husband Utshab Bhanja of Machhakota was arrested and produced before the court on charges of dowry death.
Police said the couple was married for 13-years and the accused used to torture his wife demanding more dowries.
A day before the woman ended her life, the accused had driven her out from the house demanding dowry, Aska sub-divisional police officer Suryamani Pradhan said.
The woman left home with her two minor daughters and took a bus to Berhampur.
The police suspect that unable to bear the torture, she might have taken the extreme step and jumped before a running train along with the daughters.
