Jagatsinghpur, May 22 (LocalWire): A woman hailing from Kiyamani, delivered her new born child at the main gate of CHC, Balikuda, yesterday because the ambulance couldn’t go inside the premises as the main gate was closed for long due to renovation.
The main gate of the District Headquarter Hospital, Jagatsinghpur, is also closed for the last 24 hours posing difficulty for patients and has paralysed health services.
DHH, Jagatsinghpur, which has been catering to the needs of the people of this district for long, closed the main gates as district administration is erecting a parking space outside the hospital due to space crunch inside the hospital premises.
The hospital administration, has therefore, restricted vehicles till the main gate and patients have to thereafter walk to the units.
Patients complained they were not supplied stretchers, attendants or wheelchairs to shift pregnant women, old and handicapped people from the main gate to the wards.
Sukdev Sahoo, a patient said, ‘we have no objection to closing the main gate to avert traffic congestion but we urged them to send wheelchair to handicapped people like me, which they didn’t.’
Other patients also complained of shortage of attendants and that sweepers also denied carrying critical patients.
Chief District Medical Officer, Ajay Kumar Baitharu, said, ‘we have initiated a departmental inquiry into the delivery of a child in front of Balikuda CHC due to closure of main gate and steps are being taken to provide wheel chair and other facilities to handicapped persons in DHH, Jagatsinghpur.
We have allowed the vehicles of critical patients and pregnant women to enter the DHH campus while vehicles of general patients have been restricted.’
