Bhubaneswar, Dec 05 (LocalWire): A 55-year-old woman was gored to death as a wild boar pounced on her at a cropland in Narasinghpur village under Tantiapal marine police station jurisdiction of Kendrapara district.
The victim- identified as Bharati Jena- succumbed to injuries at Rajnagar community health centre early morning today.
The animal had sneaked into the village to eat crops and standing vegetable plants as the village is located in close vicinity of forest areas and habitation corridors of these animals, said forest officials.
The forest department will award compensatory sum to the next of the kin of the deceased woman, said forest officials.
Forest personnel have begun maintaining night watch and vigil in the village. The department has constituted a night-vigil squad to drive away the wild boar. The villagers have been advised to avoid movement during night, added forest officials.
