Balasore, December 11 (LocalWire):A woman drug peddler was arrested from Odisha’s Balasore district in a pre-dawn swoop on Wednesday by excise personnel with the recovery of banned brown sugar narcotic substance to the tune of Rs 30 lakh.
The contraband weighed at 310 grams and is valued at over Rs 30 lakh. The banned substances were seized from the possession accused Ramila Biwi.
Acting on a tip-off, the state excise officials nabbed her at her house in Jaleswar police station area, officials said.
The arrested woman was operating an interstate drugs smuggling racket. Her son- Muna Khan- was earlier arrested for drug smuggling offence.
The accused is being interrogated to ascertain the modus operandi of the racket. She has been booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act, said officials.
Of late, Balasore district has turned into a hub of brown sugar trade. With drug peddlers spreading their tentacles across the district, there are reports of youths felling into their vicious trap coming under the spell of addiction, much to the concern of civil and police administration of the coastal district.
