Berhampur, Dec 14 (LocalWire) A woman powerlifter from Berhampur has bagged gold medal in the Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship held at Ulaanbaatar, Mangolia.
Ranjita Mishra, 41, had won gold medal in Master I (above 40-year age) section and 72-kg category in the championship by lifting total 323-kg on December 6.
The competition was held from December 4 to 8 in Mangolia.
Mishra presently lives in Mumbai.
She was selected to compete in the Asian Powerlifting Championship after clinching gold in the National Powerlifting Championship competition held at Lucknow in September.
“‘I have been practicing powerlifting for the last seven months with the guidance of Binuth Raghunath in Mumbai. Earlier, I was only going to gym to take fitness course,” said Mishra, mother of two sons.
She is now eyeing to compete at World Powerlifting Championship to be held in Sweden and Commonwealth championship to be held in Canada in June and September respectively.
Her father Jagan Mohan Mohapatra, who resides at Gandhi Nagara third line area here, said: “Besides powerlifting, my daughter is also a pro in classical and modern dances. She had also been a part of some Odia television serials.”
