Bhubaneswar, April 3 (LocalWire): A 41-year-old woman today attempted self-immolation in front of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence alleging the party’s Udala Assembly candidate sexually harassed her. Security guards overpowered her and averted a mishap.
Police detained the woman hailing from Mayurbhanj district and is counselling her.
She alleged that Srinath Soren and another man raped her at his residence. ‘Soren had promised me a government job in return of Rs one lakh, which I paid him in 2014. But since he failed to deliver, I demanded back the money.
Soren asked me to visit his residence to take the money. Once I reached there, he along with one of his associates confined me in a room and raped me,’ alleged the woman.
She said she had earlier lodged a case in this connection at Udala police station. ‘Police had registered a case but did not arrest him.
Despite being a rape accused, he obtained a BJD ticket and I am afraid he might harm me if he wins the polls. I was forced to take the extreme step,’ added the woman.
Soren was not available for comments. Police is investigating the matter.
