Jagatsinghpur, June 15 (LocalWire): Hundreds of women of Pankpal panchyat under Kujang police station today made a beeline to Gopinath temple to pray to Lord Hanuman to appease the monkey God so that he saves their children from monkey menace.
Monkeys are a menace in the area and twenty-one people have been seriously injured by the primates and children rarely venture out.
Schools are reopening in four days and mothers are afraid their kids might be hurt.
Hundreds of irate people had last week blocked the Cuttack-Paradip state highway and demonstrated in front of Kujang forest range office demanding that the monkeys be caught and chased away.
They also took to streets to protest against the indifference by the district authorities despite several complaints.
Forest Range Officer, Kujang, Pratap Chandra Mohanty, said, ‘two teams have been pressed into service to trap the monkeys and two have been caught. People are irritating the monkeys that stray to localities in search of food and therefore they are attacking.’
