Paradip, August 13 (LocalWire): Hundreds of women under the banner of Utkal Mahila Samiti today demonstrated in front of Kujang Community Health Centre protesting against the deterioration of health services in the hospital due to shortage of doctors and lack of infrastructure.
They sought the intervention of the Collector and the Chief District Medical Officer to resolve their issues and vowed to intensify their stir if their demands were not met.
Kujang CHC, one of the oldest hospitals of the state was established in 1893 and thousands of people from Paradip, Kujang, Erasama of Jagatsinghpur district and other areas of Mahakalapada, Marsaghai under Kendrapada district were treated here.
Locals alleged that healthcare services are completely paralyzed due to lack of infrastructure and shortage of doctors.
Out of five specialists, posts of paediatric, gynaecology and medicine posts are lying vacant and despite frequent reminders and demonstrations, nothing has improved in the health services.
Lack of infrastructure has also hit health services.
An x-ray machine which was installed five years back by IOCL has been lying defunct due to absence of radiologists and poor patients have to travel to Cuttack to avail this facility.
Local women have demanded the hospital fill up the vacant posts as soon as possible, install X-ray machine, endoscopy machine and other basic infrastructure, to engage pharmacists, staff nurse, technicians as per requirement, supply medicine in Niramaya scheme and to provide medicines to snake and dog bite patients, to include all poor people under Biju Sawathya Kalyan scheme and to provide food, bed sheet and keep the environment clean.
