Berhampur, Feb 11 (LocalWire) Two federations of women Self Help Groups (SHGs) under Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) have been selected for the prestigious Swachhata Excellence Award-2018-19 from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Agarata City Level Federation (CLF) and Sapatha Area Level Federation (ALF) of Berhampur have been selected for the award.
“The award will be presented to both the federations at New Delhi on Feb 15,” said BeMC commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore.
CLF and ALFs were formed under the Urban Livelihood Mission (ULM)
According to sources, 28 ALFs and four CLFs across the country have been selected for the award this year.
Of them, one CLF (Berhampur) and two ALFs (Berhampur and Balesore) will receive the award for their involvement in various cleanliness and sanitation initiatives, along with urban livelihood mission.
These two federations have been selected after the ministry verified facts submitted by the BeMC in October last year. .
While one CLF is functioning in BeMC area, as many as 120 ALFs are working in the corporation area.
An ALF comprises of 10 to 20 women SHGs, while a CLF consists of over 60 ALFs.
Agarata City Level Federation (CLF) has over 7120 members, said nodal community organizer, BeMC, Geetanjali Samantaray.
“The members have actively participated in many cleanliness and open defection free awareness initiatives, while maintaining 40 community based toilets in different areas of the city,” said said Rathore.
Pertinently, BeMC was the first corporation in the state to be declared as ODF on Oct 2, 2018.
