Paradip, Sept 3 (LocalWire): Workers of Paradip International Cargo Terminal Pvt. Ltd alleged lack of supervision and negligence of officials for the two consecutive mishaps.
A worker was grievously injured while unloading iron plates and five workers narrowly escaped being injured yesterday after a weak rope snapped during unloading cargo.
The worker was admitted to Paradip port hospital for treatment and later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.
The five workers working on the hatch of vessel ‘Kent Giant’ narrowly escaped while unloading 25 tonne coil by a crane.
The ship was loading steel coils by Tata Steel Ltd.
Due to snapping of the crane’s wire rope, the coil fell on the ship.
Frequent accidents in PICT berth have been brought panic among the workers.
Workers alleged that during inclement weather, the cargo operations at PICT remained suspended as the ships begin to roll.
But now inspite of adverse weather conditions, workers without safety harness are carrying out cargo operation.
General manager (HR), PICT, Kulamani Panda confessed that the rope snapped while loading coil on the vessel and an investigation has been ordered to know the exact cause of mishap.
