Berhampur: June 12 (LocalWire): A two-member team from the World Bank visited Ganjam to inspect the construction of pucca houses, constructed under the World Bank assist Odisha Disaster Recovery Project, in the district today.
Around 16,290 beneficiaries of 107 villages in five coastal blocks, including Ganjam, Khallikote, Rangeilunda, Chikiti and Patrapur have been identified and the team visited different sea-side villages in these blocks to inspect the houses constructed under ODRP by OSDMA and interacted with the people.
Apart from houses, they also reviewed the availability of other infrastructure facilities like internal road, water and electricity supply, construction of community houses, Anganwadi and ANM centres in the villages.
Although construction of almost all the houses are complete and people will soon take possession, some infrastructure facilities like street light, drainage system are lacking in some of the ODRP villages and the team took note of the complaints by villagers during the interaction.
A high-level meeting will be held at Bhubaneswar chaired by the chief secretary on Thursday and the problems raised by the people will be discussed, said additional district magistrate Laxmikant Sethi.
The World Bank had sanctioned $153 million credit to the state government to help the state rebuilt disaster-resilient house as well as strengthen its capacity for disaster risk management after several thousand houses were blown away by the severe cyclonic storm Phailin which hit the district in 2013.
